Get practical support, learner-to-learner swap opportunities and guidance to help you work towards your driving test sooner.
Your test. Your booking. Our support.
Support and guidance only. You keep full control of your own DVSA booking.
Finding an earlier driving test can be frustrating, especially when you need a licence for work, family or independence. Practical Test Assist is our support service for learners who want to sit their test sooner, added to your intensive driving course for £100.
We keep track of test dates across our own learner network, and when two of our learners could both benefit from exchanging appointments, we put them in touch. Alongside that, you get clear guidance on which test centres you are permitted to move to and how to use the official service properly.
The aim is to take the guesswork out of it, so you can put your energy where it counts — getting ready to pass.
Following the 2026 DVSA rule changes, only learners can book, cancel or change their own practical driving test. We built Practical Test Assist around that, not against it.
What we never do:
Every change to your booking is made by you, through the official GOV.UK service. What you are paying for is our time, our network and our guidance — not a booking service. Because earlier dates depend on what other learners release and on your own permitted centres, we cannot guarantee that an earlier date will become available.
Everything below is yours whether or not you take Practical Test Assist. Finding an earlier test is frustrating, so here is how to give yourself the best chance.
Earlier appointments become available when other learners cancel or move their tests. Sign in to change your driving test with your licence number and test reference and check for yourself.
If you can travel, look at all the centres you are permitted to move to. Since 9 June 2026 that means the three nearest centres to where your test is currently booked, or the centre you first booked at. Use the checker below to see yours.
There is no guaranteed time for cancellations to appear. It is worth checking at different points during the day and across the week, but no particular time is guaranteed to produce a slot.
An earlier appointment is only worth having if you are ready for it. Speak to your instructor before you move your test, and get some practice on the routes around the new centre.
You only get two changes per booking. Moving the date and the centre together counts as one. Updating your address or adding your instructor's reference number does not count at all.
Type the test centre your test is booked at now. We'll show the 3 centres DVSA lets you move it to, and where you could go after that.
Covers every car test centre in north-west England plus Stoke-on-Trent and Skipton, using DVSA's official list (last updated by DVSA on 28 May 2026). The GOV.UK change service always shows your exact options, so check there before you confirm anything. Centre elsewhere? See the full DVSA list.
Most online advice about finding earlier tests was written before these came in and no longer works.
You get 2 changes. Moving the date and the centre together counts as one change.
Since 31 March 2026Your instructor, family or any company cannot book, change, swap or cancel your test for you.
Since 12 May 2026Unofficial websites and apps that scan the booking service for tests are not allowed.
Since 12 May 2026You can move your test to the 3 nearest centres to where it is booked, or back to the centre you first booked at.
Since 9 June 2026Get support from Express Pass Driving School and take the next step towards your driving licence. Practical Test Assist is £100, added to your intensive driving course.
Not sure yet? Message us and we'll talk through where your test is booked and what your realistic options are — no obligation.
It is a £100 support service added to your intensive driving course. We share swap opportunities from within our own learner network, give you guidance on your permitted test centres, and walk you through using the official GOV.UK service yourself. You make every booking change.
No. Since 12 May 2026 only the learner can book, change, swap or cancel their own car driving test. We never sign in to the DVSA booking service as you, and we do not scan or automate it. Everything is done by you, on GOV.UK.
No. DVSA does not allow unofficial services that scan the driving test booking service for appointments. We do not scan it. What we do is keep track of test dates inside our own learner network and put learners in touch when a swap could suit them both.
No, and we would not trust anyone who does. Earlier dates depend on what other learners release, your permitted test centres and your remaining changes. Practical Test Assist improves your chances and saves you time. It is not a guarantee.
Two learners who each already have a test booked agree to exchange appointments and then each make the swap themselves through the official service. A swap counts as one of your two permitted changes. Check the GOV.UK guidance on swapping your driving test before you agree to one.
Since 9 June 2026 you can move a car test to one of the 3 nearest test centres to where it is currently booked, or back to the centre you first booked at. Use the checker on this page to see yours, then confirm on GOV.UK.
You can make 2 changes to a car driving test booking. Changing the date and the centre at the same time counts as one change. After 2 changes you would need to cancel and book again.
Test centre options and distances are from DVSA's "Check which driving test centres you can move your test to" (Open Government Licence v3.0). Distances are approximate driving distances avoiding motorways. Express Pass Driving School is not part of DVSA and does not book, change, cancel or search for driving tests on behalf of learners.
