Prefer to keep things week by week with no package at all? That is exactly what our Pay As You Go driving lessons in Manchester are for.
Sound Familiar?
None of that means you cannot drive. It usually means there is too much happening at once.
One less thing to think about, from your very first lesson.
The car handles the gears. You handle the road. Learners who move across often tell us junctions and hill starts stop being the thing they dread, and the lesson goes on observation, planning and confidence instead. If you would rather hold a full licence that covers both transmissions, our manual driving lessons in Manchester are the same price per hour.
An honest side-by-side, so you pick the transmission that fits your life rather than the one you feel you should choose.
Early Test Booking Support Available for the Cheetham Hill and Chadderton test centres. In a hurry? Compare our intensive driving courses in Manchester, available in automatic at the same price as manual.
Simple Process
Pick hourly or a package and select automatic on the booking form. New students start with the Β£60 first two hours.
Send the form or ring 07587 867373. We match you with an automatic instructor covering your area.
Your DVSA-approved instructor gets in touch to arrange the first lesson and picks you up from home, work or college.
Quiet roads first, then junctions, dual carriageways and the routes around your local test centre. Add hours whenever you need them.
Why Learners Choose It
No clutch, no gear changes. Mirrors, signals and road position get your full attention from the first lesson.
Stalling in traffic is often what shakes nervous learners most. In an automatic it simply cannot happen.
Stop-start driving on the Bury New Road or through Manchester city centre is far easier without constant gear work.
Every electric and hybrid car is automatic, so an automatic licence fits where most new cars are heading.
Prefer a female instructor? We have experienced female instructors available on request across Greater Manchester.

Where We Teach
Our automatic instructors cover 31 areas of Greater Manchester, from Cheetham Hill, Crumpsall and Harpurhey in the north through to Salford, Eccles, West Didsbury and Chadderton. Lessons start from your home, workplace or college, and you learn on the roads you will actually be tested on.
If you already have a practical test booked, tell us which centre it is at and your instructor will build the local routes, roundabouts and trickier junctions into your lessons.
Common Questions
Automatic lessons are Β£38 per hour with a 2-hour minimum booking β the same rate as our manual lessons. New students can take their first 2 hours for Β£60 instead of Β£76. Packages are Β£360 for 10 hours, Β£550 for 15 hours, Β£720 for 20 hours and Β£1,050 for 30 hours.
No. Passing in an automatic gives you an automatic-only licence, so you can drive automatic cars but not manual ones. To drive both you would need to take a further practical test in a manual car. If that matters to you, our manual driving lessons page explains the trade-off.
It depends on your confidence, how often you practise and how quickly you build road awareness. DVSA guidance suggests the average learner takes roughly 45 hours of professional tuition plus private practice before passing. Automatic learners often need fewer hours because there is no clutch or gear work to master, but your instructor will give you an honest view after your first few lessons.
The test itself is identical: the same routes, the same manoeuvres, the same independent driving section and the same marking. What changes is that gear and clutch faults cannot happen in an automatic, so more of your attention is free for observation, positioning and speed management.
Not with us. Automatic and manual lessons are both Β£38 per hour and every package costs the same in either transmission, so you can choose on what suits you rather than on price.
Yes. Message us and we will move you across to an automatic instructor, subject to availability in your area. Any hours you have already paid for and not used are refunded, so you are never locked in.
We teach on the routes around the Greater Manchester test centres, including Cheetham Hill, Chadderton, Bredbury, Bury, Rochdale, West Didsbury, Bolton and Sale. Our test centre guides cover each one in detail.
Start with two hours for Β£60, or go straight to a package. No contract, no pressure, and a refund on any hours you do not use. We cover 31 areas across Greater Manchester.
