The eight stages of an intensive course
These run in order. Nothing is skipped, and nothing happens without you knowing about it first.

Tell us about your driving
We start with questions rather than a sales pitch: how much driving experience you have, how many lessons you have taken, whether you have sat a test before and what went wrong, and realistically how much time you can commit each week. The answers decide everything that follows.

Choose your course
Six, ten, fifteen, twenty or thirty hours, in a manual or automatic car, with or without Early Test Booking Support. If you are not sure, the course recommender asks eight questions and suggests a starting point. You can add hours later, so there is no need to over-buy.

Complete your booking
A £150 deposit secures your instructor and your dates, with the balance payable in line with our current booking and payment policy. You will get written confirmation of your course length, price, transmission type and start date.

Meet your instructor
You are matched with one DVSA approved instructor who stays with you for the whole course. They will confirm pick-up arrangements and what to bring — your provisional licence and, if you have it, your theory pass certificate.

Initial assessment
The first part of your first session is spent finding out where you genuinely are, not where you think you are. Vehicle control, observation, junction judgement, confidence in traffic. Your instructor then sets out a plan for the rest of the hours, including which areas will take the most time.

Intensive training
Structured lessons in longer blocks, days rather than weeks apart. Progress is reviewed as you go, so you always know what has improved and what has not. If something is taking longer than expected, you will hear about it early enough to do something about it.

Test preparation
Mock tests marked the way an examiner would mark them, practice on the roads around your chosen Manchester test centre, independent driving with a sat nav, and focused work on whatever the mock tests expose. You will also get an honest test-readiness assessment.

Find and book your practical test
You book your DVSA practical test yourself, using your own DVSA account, and you pay the DVSA test fee directly. Express Pass does not book, hold or manage practical tests on a learner's behalf. If you want help finding an earlier slot, the optional Early Test Booking Support add-on is set out below.

Questions about the process
It depends on instructor availability in your area and how many hours you need. Shorter blocks can often start within a week or two; larger courses need more planning. Contact us with your preferred dates and we will tell you what is realistic.
