There is more to coordinate early on, because clutch and gears are added to everything else. Most learners find the first few hours harder, then it becomes automatic. Whether it is harder overall depends on the person.
Most learners are moving off and stopping smoothly within two or three lessons, and stop thinking about the clutch somewhere between five and ten. Hill starts usually take a little longer.
It varies with your starting point. DVSA figures point to an average of around 45 hours of tuition plus private practice. Our lesson calculator gives you a realistic estimate.
Yes. A manual licence covers both manual and automatic vehicles, subject to the normal conditions on your licence.
Yes. Tell your instructor and we will move you across, subject to a manual instructor being available in your area. Your progress on observation and road craft carries over.
It is normal, and it is not a fail on test unless it becomes unsafe. If it is knocking your confidence, your instructor will go back to clutch control at low speed. If it remains the main barrier, automatic lessons are a sensible option rather than a defeat.
